ARTS: shanghai noir

The celebrated fusion of east and west, told through the music, the night and the traditional alleys, brings this noir feeling that still comes up at night and finds it's roots on what I would call the shanghainese soul.

It dates back to the days when Shanghai flourished a s a center of commerce between east and west, and became a multinational hub of finance and business by the 30s.

A connection between a western classic such as the Cotton Club, with its retro feeling, and the everyday nightlife of a city that is costantlychanging but still manage to retain its soul and personality.
